Professional Category Winners*

Here's a nearly complete list of names (UPDATED 4-16) who will be getting invites for the Excellence in Journalism banquet. The event will be May 10 at the Riverside Marriott (we may be starting a little later this year, there's an event in the same room that will keep us from starting on time).

As always, if you see a name misspelled on this list, let us know. You can either post a comment on this board, or you can e-mail billnorrisspj@yahoo.com.

College results will come in a later posting.

I learned recently that I earned an award in your 2008 awards program. I was not aware that the story had been entered. The citation read:
SECOND PLACE: Ray Marano, Smart Business Magazine
“Beating Bankruptcy”
COMMENTS: This story stood out because of the reporter’s ability to get candid comments from the executive on a difficult subject. With more sourcing, it would have ranked higher.
I was pleased to learn that I had won the award, but it might be worth noting that Smart Business discourages the use of secondary sources in its stories. Most journalists would find this counter to sound journalistic practice. You might consider disqualifying stories that fail to include some additional supportive sourcing.
